Charlie is a senior member of the Organizational Effectiveness Group at ArcelorMittal Dofasco and a highly sought after consultant in the broader community. Below is a recording of a talk he gave at Hive X 2013, a conference for local young professionals and entrepreneurs organized by Hamilton Hive.
The talk is titled, Effectively Disengaging People Takes Work.
Charlie uses humour and irony to expose the ways well intentioned organizations create conditions that lead to people feeling disengaged, rationally and emotionally. These include a sense of meaninglessness, lack of control, incompetence and futility – conditions that run counter to people’s fundamental desire to contribute and make a difference at work and in the world.
Charlie challenged his young audience to learn from the lessons of past generations to produce a groundswell of genuine engagement at all levels of society. And on a personal note, he encouraged each of us to “find our own hat” – a parable on the importance of personal authenticity.
Charlie Hendershott was a key contributing member of the Hamilton Economic Summit ‘Next Generation Committee’ that between 2009-2011 set the stage for the creation of Hamilton Hive.
